Outerwear to Keep You Warm for the Holiday!

Girl in Knit SweaterWhat could say more about winter than a knit sweater! With such cold and windy days, a knit sweater will do the trick! They come in many patterns and colors to fit your style and are sold at a fair price. Some can be found at Forever21, and are usually sold around $20, more or less. If you love them, check out some sweater dresses as well. Sweaters are not limited to just a top, but also come as outerwear. Some look similar to jackets with buttons and are split down the middle. These sweaters look cute with short dresses or casual clothing, yet still give off the winter-theme feel.

Blue BlazerFeeling classy? Try on a blazer. Blazers are not just for professional wear, but also give you a more mature look. You can pair longer ones with dresses and go out to social events. The perfect blazer can give you a comfortable and forming shape on the shoulder, as well as leave you looking slim. Most blazers don’t come as light as the one above, so it will still block the wind on a cold day. And as any outerwear, they come in all sorts of colors and patterns.

Accessorizing, although quite possibly the most important part of completing your look, can often also be the most expensive. The majority of girls don’t realize how simple it is to make your own jewelry that is both unique and inexpensive. Here are just a couple of the endless options of DIY jewelry projects.

Pretty Sure I Nail’d It!

Every girl knows getting a manicure or pedicure is expensive, but you don’t always have to go to the salon to have great looking nails. If you’re interested in saving yourself a couple hundred dollars a year, doing your own nails once in a while can be fun and give you an excuse to have a girl’s night.

The Konad Stamping Nail Art is a DIY nail set I’ve bought that works fairly well. Each set comes with a stamper, a design plate, a scraper, and nail polish. All you have to do is apply nail polish to the design you want. Then, using the scraper, simply glide over the design once to scrape off the excess polish. Press the stamper down on the design to transfer it onto the stamper, then stamp or roll it onto your nail. It’s as simple as that! With many designs to choose from, your options are endless. This video will demonstrate the easy process of using the Konad product with a Halloween theme:

Another DIY nail project that has been around for a while now is the water marble effect. Here is another video tutorial on how to do it.

The Endless Possibilities of a Plain White Tee

Every female college student should invest in a few Hanes v-neck plain white tee’s. The possibilities with this one piece of clothing are endless. They come in a pack of three for about $7, and I assure you, you won’t regret a single penny spent. Here are just some of the ways you can utilize your new plain white tee.

Dress it Up- You can wear your white tee with a high-waisted skirt and a blazer for a job interview or a nice pair of skinny jeans and heels and you’re ready for a night on the town. Or Dress it Down- In a hurry to class or just not in the mood to get ready? Slip on a pair of shorts or some leggings with your tee for a more casual look.

Wear your white tee with a cardigan or a vest, with fun scarves and necklaces, or layer with colored tank tops for a unique style. You can even add a big belt buckle to make a statement.

There are many ways to make your white tee your own. You can start simple by tie dying or splatter painting your shirt- not only is it fun to make with your friends, but it is also fun to wear. You can grab a pair of scissors and make it a cropped tee, or add fringe to the bottom. You can even cut your t-shirt into a scarf. Make a quick trip to Hobby Lobby and add glitter glue, sequins, rhinestones, patches, and all sorts of other things. To make something even more advanced, transform your tee into a dress for the college that you attend by adding ribbon and fabric of your school colors.

The plain white tee is a must have for your college wardrobe. Not only is it affordable but gives you the ability to transform it into whatever you want it to be to match your personality.

Save the TA-TA’s — Shopping for a cause!

It’s October again and everywhere we turn in stores, including the grocery store, is reminding us that it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Being a female, it is important for me to support this cause and as an added plus many different brands come out with special items during the month of October. We even see this trend while watching football games, when all of the NFL teams add a little pink to their uniforms.

Most notably you can recognize these brands and stores for their efforts to provide fun pink colored frocks, gadgets, beauty products, and home décor items during this month:

Ralph Lauren
Kitchen Aid
Lacoste
Wacoal
Estee Lauder
Ford

New York Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2012

Color blocking of the future headed down the runways inside the Mercedes Benz tents at New York Fashion Week all last week as designers previewed their collections. Designers like Cynthia Rowley, Rag & Bone, and Marc by Marc Jacobs, just to name a few, are keeping the color blocking story alive in their Spring/Summer 2012 collections. Last year the designers gave us something pretty and polite walking down the aisles, with their pastel frocks and bold floral prints, to drive us into Spring and Summer of 2011, but this year we are going for sporty and edgy.
