Baby, it’s getting cold outside–warm up with some Versace for H&M

Dontella and models for Versace for H&M

Perhaps you haven’t fallen in love with H&M yet because you haven’t dragged your butt to NorthPark but darlings it is time to check it out. Every year H&M collaborates with a design for a bi-annual collection and this fall they have partnered with power house Dontella Versace. This exclusive collection for H&M will encompass all of the things we love about Versace’s heritage- leather, prints, color, and exclusive materials at college friendly H&M prices. The Versace collection will have lines for both women and men and select pieces for the home. The womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses that express the spirit of the season, featuring studded leather, silk, and colorful prints, and accessories including high heels and costume jewelry. The men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including the perfect tuxedo, as well as belts and jewelry for men. For the first time in a designer collaboration with H&M, the collection will include homeware pieces including pillows and bedspreads. This line will only be released in about 300 stores worldwide so let’s cross our fingers and pray to the fashion god’s that Dallas is one of those cities. The line will be available in those 300 select stores starting on November 19, 2011. Just in case the new baby store to the H&M family does not get selected as a store for the collection in November, in addition, Dontella Versace has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M which will be exclusively available in countries with H&M on-line sales starting January 19, 2012.

The Endless Possibilities of a Plain White Tee

Every female college student should invest in a few Hanes v-neck plain white tee’s. The possibilities with this one piece of clothing are endless. They come in a pack of three for about $7, and I assure you, you won’t regret a single penny spent. Here are just some of the ways you can utilize your new plain white tee.

Dress it Up- You can wear your white tee with a high-waisted skirt and a blazer for a job interview or a nice pair of skinny jeans and heels and you’re ready for a night on the town. Or Dress it Down- In a hurry to class or just not in the mood to get ready? Slip on a pair of shorts or some leggings with your tee for a more casual look.

Wear your white tee with a cardigan or a vest, with fun scarves and necklaces, or layer with colored tank tops for a unique style. You can even add a big belt buckle to make a statement.

There are many ways to make your white tee your own. You can start simple by tie dying or splatter painting your shirt- not only is it fun to make with your friends, but it is also fun to wear. You can grab a pair of scissors and make it a cropped tee, or add fringe to the bottom. You can even cut your t-shirt into a scarf. Make a quick trip to Hobby Lobby and add glitter glue, sequins, rhinestones, patches, and all sorts of other things. To make something even more advanced, transform your tee into a dress for the college that you attend by adding ribbon and fabric of your school colors.

The plain white tee is a must have for your college wardrobe. Not only is it affordable but gives you the ability to transform it into whatever you want it to be to match your personality.

IKEA, Your Way

For most college students looking for stylish furniture on a tight budget, there is only one place to turn to: IKEA. Specializing in modern Scandinavian design built for functionality, IKEA sells a huge range of products for every room. You can get any piece of furniture or any accessory you want, and you can choose how much you want to spend on it. For a quick fix, you can choose one of their low-priced lines, or you can spend a little more and get better quality.

But what happens when every college student in your dorm ends up with the same bookshelf? Or three of your friends have the same couch? That’s where IKEAhackers.net comes in. IKEA Hackers is a great resource if you want to personalize your cheap IKEA items so that you get to save some space in your budget, but also stand out from the crowd a bit.

The site features real people and their real projects that turn basic IKEA pieces into clever new pieces, or in some cases just improved or customized versions of the original pieces. Each post lists the materials used in the “hack,” as well as a description of the process. The posts range from children’s play kitchens to footstools, from lighting to couches. You can use the search bar to find hacks featuring specific products, and there is a category list on the left if you just want to get a general idea of the content available. Additionally, the site’s Quick Start Guide has a useful list of projects broken down by difficulty level, as well as a list of most popular hacks.

The best part about the site is that many of the hacks use items you probably already have on hand, and the majority of the IKEA pieces used are from the lower-priced lines – perfect for a college undergrad’s light wallet. Even if you never shop at IKEA and aren’t interested in starting, it’s inspiring to see how easy it is to start with something very basic and end with something unique and personal.
