Well, it has been fun folks. I figured my last blog post as your residential ‘style advisor’ should be a tip that can applied season in, season out. With that being said, nothing is more seasonal than having making those bad and regrettable purchases. We all make them occasionally. You know what I’m talking about.. ‘that’ pair of pants that will never see the light of day or those pair of shoes that you have worn maybe 3 times in the past year. Sure they might have been only 30.00, but that’s 30.00 wasted and the only return you are getting for your investment is dust. Couple more of these bad purchases, and you are looking at a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear. Avoiding bad clothing purchases can be a little tricky but is something that will help you save money in the long run. I’ve managed to break it down to three fairly simple rules
Yesterday I stopped by Starbucks, and saw that the peppermint mocha is back, with added Christmas decorations in department stores everywhere, and Black Friday sales records being broken, it seems like the holiday’s and the spirit of giving is back in full effect. Whether its a gift for your loving dad, crazy uncle, quirky brother, handsome boyfriend, or some boy toy, this gift guide was made with the hopes to accommodate for the needs of everyone of those special fellas.
There is no other fabric that represents American youth like denim, which makes the denim jacket the cream of the crop. Trust me folks, it doesn’t get more American than this; unless you find yourself driving around in a Hummer, about to get it on with that chick from your bio lab that you’ve been trying to get with all year, or Country Fried Steaks, but even that is only pretty close. It’s no secret that denim jackets have been slowly starting to resurface season after season, largely thanks to actors like Ryan Gosling, who is channeling his inner Steve McQueen, and even singing sensation Usher and Kanye West below pictured with his former girlfriend.
If you’re a lover of fashion perhaps you have heard of the little design house of Jean Paul Gaultier. Jean Paul Gaultier is living proof that fashion can be walking art work, and the Dallas Museum of Art is bringing some of his most influential pieces to an exhibit. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, you can be up close and personal with avant-garde couture fashion that has left its everlasting mark on our society. This is the first exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art that will explore the world of fashion. The exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art will open to the public on Sunday, November 13, 2011. The cost of admission is $12.00 for students, but please don’t forget that you must pay $5 student admission to the museum first. At this exhibit you will see 30 animated mannequins, including one of Jean Paul Gaultier himself, and will feature approximately 120 ensembles. This is an event that no college fashionista will want to miss; fashion from the sidewalk to the catwalk event will run until February 12, 2012.
As a writer for this online lifestyle blog, catered towards college students, I try my best to prepare you for a life post graduation as well. Yes, I know that looks aren’t everything, but there are some words that can’t be taken back with a poor appearance. Lets face it, those chuck-taylor’s you wore with your Al’s Formal Wear tuxedo to your senior prom won’t land you a 6 figure salary during your interview, or help you pick up that lovely lady from the bar.
As of right now the current trend is to have a pair of Wingtips, but I know they are A. Expensive B. Almost impossible to find second hand and C. too loud to truly be versatile. Cap Toe Oxfords are your next best bet. They are still a little expensive (come on, they’re leather dress shoes, not some Jordans made in china). but don’t fret, these shoes are a worthy investment because they certainly look more professional and are easier to pair with than those black dress shoes you have in the back of your closet. Not that there is anything wrong with the black dress shoe, but lets try to add some more sophistication in your wardrobe. Stores such as Footsmart, Macys, and Urbanoutfitters sell cap toe oxfords for a very reasonable price.
Cardigans are essential to any mans wardrobe during the fall, like migraines are essential when writing a APA formatted, 13 pages literary analysis papers with a minimum of 8 sources. (Over did it again huh?) Really though, don’t worry about looking your grandparents these cardigans are different. Luckily they are less bulky, and more slimming and flattering. They are timeless and can be worn by themselves or serve as a layering piece for a thicker jacket on top. Whatever the case is, put the hoodie (Not their is anything with that hoodie) or at least when you are treating your girl out on a date. While they can easily be accompanied with a v-neck of some sort, it’s nice to see our collegiate brethrens sporting them with a nice contrasting button-up and watch. Take a look at the video below, and enjoy some nice visuals provided by yours truly.
Remember no matter how old you are, you’re never too old to participate in the spirit of Halloween. Whether you’re causing mischief around the campus, trick or treating with some friends, or hitting up that sorority party, you don’t want to be that guy with no costume. Sure you could go out, and become your favorite superhero or anime character but for those who don’t watch such things, here is a fun filled post of how to do creative Halloween get-ups with what you may already have in your closet.
