Well, it has been fun folks. I figured my last blog post as your residential ‘style advisor’ should be a tip that can applied season in, season out. With that being said, nothing is more seasonal than having making those bad and regrettable purchases. We all make them occasionally. You know what I’m talking about.. ‘that’ pair of pants that will never see the light of day or those pair of shoes that you have worn maybe 3 times in the past year. Sure they might have been only 30.00, but that’s 30.00 wasted and the only return you are getting for your investment is dust. Couple more of these bad purchases, and you are looking at a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear. Avoiding bad clothing purchases can be a little tricky but is something that will help you save money in the long run. I’ve managed to break it down to three fairly simple rules
With all the talk of dressing up for the winter season, don’t forget about hats! Hats will keep your head warm and comfy as well as give you a fun way to show off a bit of your personality.
Bomber hats are in stock in many stores! You may have seen them around during the winter time, but never really took notice, but never really given them much attention. These hats are square shaped, with flaps that cover your ears. They are commonly found with furry material on the inside and often come in unique patterns.
The holdiays can be an expensive time of year, so we’re keeping the money-saving tips coming this week with a continuation of our earlier post, Gifts for Him: Under $30. Here are some unique gifts for the special women in your life.
What could say more about winter than a knit sweater! With such cold and windy days, a knit sweater will do the trick! They come in many patterns and colors to fit your style and are sold at a fair price. Some can be found at Forever21, and are usually sold around $20, more or less. If you love them, check out some sweater dresses as well. Sweaters are not limited to just a top, but also come as outerwear. Some look similar to jackets with buttons and are split down the middle. These sweaters look cute with short dresses or casual clothing, yet still give off the winter-theme feel.
Feeling classy? Try on a blazer. Blazers are not just for professional wear, but also give you a more mature look. You can pair longer ones with dresses and go out to social events. The perfect blazer can give you a comfortable and forming shape on the shoulder, as well as leave you looking slim. Most blazers don’t come as light as the one above, so it will still block the wind on a cold day. And as any outerwear, they come in all sorts of colors and patterns.
The tote bag is a college girl’s essential, especially around this time of the year. Whether it be to carry your books around campus, or to take your things home for the holidays, a nice tote bag is something you want to have handy. By this point, you may be growing tired of your old one, but you don’t have the money to buy a new one because of all the Christmas shopping you’re doing. Well, we have a solution to both problems- wanting a new tote bag and Christmas shopping- make your own tote bag at home! You can use it for yourself and give them to your friends as Christmas presents! It saves money and the hassle of trying to figure out what to get all your friends.
All you need is: fabric and a sewing machine. Here is a simple step-by-step you can use to help you make your tote bag. I gave it a shot myself and here’s how it turned out.
Yesterday I stopped by Starbucks, and saw that the peppermint mocha is back, with added Christmas decorations in department stores everywhere, and Black Friday sales records being broken, it seems like the holiday’s and the spirit of giving is back in full effect. Whether its a gift for your loving dad, crazy uncle, quirky brother, handsome boyfriend, or some boy toy, this gift guide was made with the hopes to accommodate for the needs of everyone of those special fellas.
There is no other fabric that represents American youth like denim, which makes the denim jacket the cream of the crop. Trust me folks, it doesn’t get more American than this; unless you find yourself driving around in a Hummer, about to get it on with that chick from your bio lab that you’ve been trying to get with all year, or Country Fried Steaks, but even that is only pretty close. It’s no secret that denim jackets have been slowly starting to resurface season after season, largely thanks to actors like Ryan Gosling, who is channeling his inner Steve McQueen, and even singing sensation Usher and Kanye West below pictured with his former girlfriend.
